The “Retro” Guitar

Retro back in Brazilian Rosewood

Toronto guitar wizard Jason Fowler, proud owner of an 84 Graf cutaway, had commissioned me to build him a new guitar, just like the old one. After some trepidation, for it's nearly impossible to retrace the steps made so long ago and not be influenced by my travels in guitar making since then, I did build him his Retro guitar. Of course, try as I might, it wasn't exactly like the 84, but it had the spirit of it. You can hear the new guitar and Jason Fowler's very fine playing on his solo guitar CD Big Hill, Little Hill.

In the meantime I have built several more of the Retro models, including the one shown here, in Brazilian rosewood, white curly maple bindings and traditional Martin style abalone inlays that I made a year later for Blake Papsin.
